Pokemon Blue/Red

This was the second pokemon game (the first one was Pokemon Green, that wasn't released in the USA or Europe). Of course, all pokemaniacs have started with it, and finished it (I too).

Well, in this game, you start as Ash, a 10 year old boy, and begin a journey around the world in search of the badges, to make yourself the world champ. You'll also encounter up to 151 pokemon (150 in the USA version), all of them with special characteristics.

The graphics are much better than the green version, and the game, as you can see, has generated a lot of sequels... So, if you want to start in this universe, start with this game, since it will 'initiate' you.

The basic thing in the game is fighting with your pokemon. Do you remember the digimon? Much like that. Every pokemon has a type, and certain strengthenesses and weaknesses: for example, Mewtwo is a psychic pokemon, that means its strong against fighting types and weak to bug types, that are weak to flying ones, these ones to electric ones, and so on...

An example of fight could be this...

As you go more and more farther in the game, you'll notice that certain pokemon evolve when they get bigger. Sometimes, the graphics can be really nice and beautiful, or you can see very hard and mean ones. For example, the female Nidorin evolves into Nidorina, and this one into Nidoqueen, like this:
